I throw the clay body using a mix of white stoneware and porcelain clay, with Waipu sand blended in for texture and strength. Once the pieces are bisqued, Laura takes over and decorates them with cobalt underglaze. This is a very tricky material to work with it goes on looking quite grey and muted, so it’s hard to visualize exactly how the colour will develop once fired. Years of experience is the key to getting it right.
The results are always stunning. Laura’s confident brushwork and artistic eye turn each piece into something truly special, full of depth, movement, and beautiful tonal variation. Watching her decorate is a real highlight of the process.
